Tampere University of Applied Sciences - Nemzetközi hét
Dear colleagues,
Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) will organise its second International Week for Engineering on 19-23 March 2012, and we invite you to participate in this event in Tampere, Finland. You will find more details of the registration and the programme of the week in this message.
TAMK will welcome 20 visiting lecturers to the International Week for Engineering, and we hope to have a nice mixture of participants who will represent all the degree programmes in which TAMK offers education in the fields of engineering, technology and natural resources. These degree programmes are:
- Automobile and Transport Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
- Construction Engineering
- Construction Site Management
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Forestry
- ICT Engineering
- Laboratory Science
- Mechanical and Production Engineering
- Paper, Chemical and Textile Engineering
Aims and activities
The International Week for Engineering has a number of aims, and it offers its participants, both from the partner universities abroad and the students and staff of TAMK, a great variety of activities:
> Academic: We would like our international participants to take this opportunity to deliver lectures to our students and experience teaching to a foreign public.
> Promotion: International Week for Engineering will enable you to introduce your own institution and your study programmes to our students and staff, and to explain them your approach to teaching and learning.
> Networking: Social events will help you meet informally with colleagues from different countries and higher education institutions. The social programme will enable the participants to share common interests, to network and to consider potential educational co-operations.
> Information: You will be given an update on the latest developments at TAMK, and those of you who will visit our university of applied sciences for the first time will get an overview of our facilities.
Registration
Please find enclosed the Registration Form that you should fill in and send to Riku-Matti Kinnunen, riku-matti.kinnunen@tamk.fi, by e-mail by 30 November 2011. If there is more than one person wishing to participate from the same university, each person must fill in the Registration Form separately. If there are altogether more than 20 participants willing to come to TAMK, we will need to select the participants by applying the one-participant-per-university rule.
Programme and costs
All the visiting lecturers will give a minimum of five hours (5 x 45 min) of lectures to our engineering students who may come from our degree programmes conducted either in Finnish or in English. All the guest lectures will be given in English, and they can be grouped eg. 3h+2h. It is advisable to have a separate topic for each teaching session as the audience may be different from one teaching session to another. That is to say that we cannot guarantee that the same student group could follow the whole of five hours of classes given by the same guest lecturer.
We will designate a student group for each lecture by trying to match the topic and the students' degree programme as well as possible. The number of students in each lecture will vary from approx. 20 to 50. All the students are at undergraduate level, ie they are on their 1st - 4th year in a bachelor's degree programme in engineering, technology or natural resources. For more information about our degree programmes (curricula and structure of studies), please see the TAMK Study Guide. Please choose the relevant curriculum under the headings 'Forestry' and 'Technology'.
Together with your Registration Form, please also send your lecture syllabus (short description of the lecture content and teaching methods) to Riku-Matti Kinnunen by e-mail by 30 November 2011 at riku-matti.kinnunen@tamk.fi.
In the evenings, we will organise social programme that will include sightseeing in Tampere, a sauna evening and an informal dinner. One evening will be left free. TAMK will offer the participants a lunch daily and two dinners.
The participants will cover their travel and accommodation costs from their own budget. It's recommended to apply for a scholarship (eg. LLP Erasmus) at the home institution for a partial or total subsidy of the costs. A more detailed programme of the week will be completed by mid-February 2012.
